Clinical Psychology, Assistant Professor – Position #34266 & #34254
As part of a multi-year expansion to our CPA-accredited Clinical program, the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba invites applications for two full-time Probationary (tenure-track) appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2023 and will continue until the positions are filled. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a productive and internationally recognized research program, obtain external funding, teach primarily graduate-level and some undergraduate-level courses, supervise graduate and undergraduate research, supervise clinical practica, and contribute to service. Alternative delivery modes of teaching (e.g. online instruction) may be available. The standard weighting of responsibilities for full-time equivalent faculty members in the Faculty of Arts is 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours or 4 courses per year (reduced to 9 credit hours/3 courses for new faculty in the first 2 years). Clinical Psychology faculty members will normally be assigned 1.5 credit hours of teaching release per practicum supervised. Faculty members who play a lead role, usually as Principal Investigator, in a major, multi-year research project funded by SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR administered by the University of Manitoba will normally receive a release of three credit hours of teaching for each year of the grant.
Qualifications
Candidates should have completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree by the time of appointment from a CPA- or APA- accredited psychology program with an approved internship. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain registration as a Clinical Psychologist in Manitoba. Successful candidates close to completion of their doctoral degree may be appointed to a term position at the rank of Lecturer until successful completion of their degree, at which time they will begin their probationary appointment as an Assistant Professor.
Applicants are expected to have demonstrated excellence in research in any area of clinical psychology, broadly defined, with a track record of peer-reviewed publication, presentations at national and international conferences, and the potential to attract external grant funding. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and clinical supervision. All areas of clinically-relevant research will be considered, however, priority will be given to applicants with a focus in child and adolescent psychology, neuropsychology, substance use, and/or mental health in marginalized populations, or other areas that diversify the existing strengths of our department. Evidence of work with diverse populations is an asset.
