The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) is a member of EKO (Empowered Kids Ontario) and has a robust Developmental Services unit with a focus on 0-18 years of age. Its multiservice interdisciplinary team provides innovative approaches and services so kids with disabilities and their families live their best lives. This service is center based, school based and community based.

We provide service to 33 first nation communities virtually, and in person directly in the child’s home community.  The team travels on a regular basis to remote communities to provide team-based collaborative care; working alongside local resources within the community; which include nurses, physicians, educators and community-based workers.

We currently have a full-time permanent psychologist position available within our Developmental Services department. The position is ideal for a psychologist with competency in clinical psychology, neuropsychology and/or school psychology. The role of the Developmental Services psychologist is primarily to offer psychoeducational and psychodiagnostics assessments to children and youth. Presenting concerns regularly include autism spectrum disorders, learning and adaptive concerns, and social-emotional difficulties. There is an opportunity to provide FASD diagnostic assessments through our regional partnership clinic. In addition to assessment services, the Developmental Services psychologist can expect to carry an ongoing caseload of consultation and psychotherapy services focused on enhancing the development of children with developmental disabilities.

Developmental Services currently supports two doctoral psychology residency positions through the Northwestern Ontario Residency Psychology Internship Consortium (NORPIC). The Developmental Services psychologist will have the opportunity to provide supervision to trainees. The Developmental Services psychologist will have the opportunity to contribute to program development and evaluation

The psychologist can be located in Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, or Toronto. Regular travel is required (approximately 4-8 days per month).  The psychologist maintains flexibility and control over their caseload.

Wage scale for this position is $131,333 to $191,789 dependent on education and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Psychology from an accredited institution, , with focus in Clinical, School and/or Neuropsychology
  • Registered with College of Psychologist and Behaviour Analysists of Ontario (CPBAO)
  • Competency to provide services to children, youth and their families
  • Will consider a psychological associate with a condition of employment to obtain a PsyD in a timeframe acceptable by employer
  • Prior experience delivering psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessment services
  • Prior experience delivering psychotherapy with children and teens (group or individual)
  • Strong knowledge of normal/abnormal child development
  • Understanding and ability to apply the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists, CPBAO Standards of Practice, and relevant legislation to practice
  • Previous experience with school-based services is an asset
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe Culture, First Nation Communities and language is a definite asset.
  • Minimum one year of direct clinical experience in the area developmental disabilities and mental health
