Inclusion and Diversity: Understanding Mental Health and
Substance Abuse in the LGBTQ+ Community
With Ryan Slobodian, BA, MC, RCC, CSAT Candidate, Registered Clinical Counsellor, Edgewood Treatment Centre
Featuring special guest JuiceBoxx, Canada’s Drag Race Season 1
Those who identify as LGBTQ+ often face unique struggles: coming to terms with their sexual and gender identities, coming out to family, friends, and colleagues, threats of violence, surgical considerations, and pressure to consume drugs and alcohol. Combined, these pressures can often lead to mental health disorders or substance abuse.
On June 3, 2021, EHN Canada is proud to host a special webinar on Inclusion and Diversity | Understanding Mental Health and Substance Abuse in the LGBTQ+ Community. Ryan Slobodian, Registered Clinical Counsellor and ALLIANCE Program Leader, will discuss the importance of inclusivity and diversity in treatment, share details about EHN Canada’s programming designed to address the needs of the community, and sit down for a revealing conversation with drag performer and Drag Race Canada contestant, JuiceBoxx.
The discussion points in this webinar include:
- Recognizing that the LGBTQ+ community experiences a heightened level of both mental health and substance abuse issues
- Understanding the necessity for inclusive and diverse mental health and addictions treatment
- What is involved in developing inclusive and diverse programming
- How and where to seek help
