Hello,
I am a PhD candidate at the University of Manitoba in Applied Health Sciences with a background in Occupational Therapy, and as part of my doctoral thesis, I am conducting a study on Canadian allied health professionals’ roles in assessing medical-legal financial capacity/competency across Canada.
Currently, there is not a lot of literature or guiding evidence on best practices related to assessing an individual’s ability to manage their financial affairs or determining the need for substitute decision making. The goal of my research is to explore this issue and discuss current allied health and social-care practitioners experiences with this type of assessment.
To build better practice resources & advocacy related to financial capacity/competency across Canada, I need your help!
I am looking for currently practicing or recently practicing (within the past 2 years) occupational therapists, social workers and psychologists to take part in this study who:
- Are currently working or recently worked (within 2 years) in the province of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or Ontario
- Currently work or have worked in a setting in which they perform/performed or are/were involved in at least one financial capacity/competency assessment (i.e. determining if someone can legally manage their financial affairs) for adults of all ages living with mental health disorders.
If you fit the above criteria, consider joining my study!
And if you know any friends, family members or colleagues who fit these criteria who might be interested in participating, please pass along this email and attached poster to them.
If you or anyone you know would like to learn more about this study or would like to participate in the study, please contact:
