With Tanya Neumeyer,

and

Juan-Sebastian Ortiz

Training and Education Specialist – 2SLGBTQ+ Health, Rainbow Health Ontario

A Mental Health Commission of Canada report found that about 30 per cent of 2SLGBTQ+ respondents who consume alcohol reported increased consumption since the start of the pandemic, a 50 per cent higher than among non-2SLGTQ+ respondents. A program of Sherbourne Health, Rainbow Health Ontario (RHO)creates opportunities for the healthcare system to better serve 2SLGBTQ+ communities. RHO offers evidence-based training for healthcare providers across the province to feel more clinically and culturally competent in caring for their 2SLGBTQ+ service users. In this webinar, you will be introduced to the unique health needs of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, be familiarized with RHO’s course catalogue and other resources, and learn about the possible learning pathways to increase your 2SLGBTQ+ cultural and clinical competencies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Showcase the heightened experience 2SLGBTQ+ community members are having within the mental health and addictions realm
  • Understand the need for 2SLGBTQ+ specific mental health and addiction programming
  • Discuss how practitioners can seek out training opportunities to create and foster safe treatment spaces
