Our Youth in Need: Comprehensive Mental Health Treatment for Young Canadians

With Richa Sharma MHA MACP CHE RP(c), Manager Special Program Initiatives, Bellwood Health Services

And Lanie Schachter-Snipper, Registered Psychotherapist, National Director of Outpatient Services, EHN Canada

The vulnerability of young Canadians has never been more apparent. According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, an estimated 1.2 million children and youth in Canada are affected by mental illness—yet, less than 20 per cent will receive appropriate treatment. This has only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, further limiting access to available services and social supports. With wait times in the public system growing daily, young people are suffering and unable to find the specialized help they need. That’s why EHN Canada is making strides to fill this gap. Join our webinar for a discussion on the unique needs of youth in mental health treatment, and how our learnings from piloting an online Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Youth will inform the full program launch later this year. You will also get a firsthand look at how our clinical team is preparing to serve the inpatient care needs of young Canadians struggling with mental illness. The discussion points in this webinar include:

  • Unique aspects and challenges to consider in mental health treatment for youth
  • The need for a full continuum of care for young people across Canada
  • Introduction to EHN Canada’s youth treatment programs, including an online Intensive Outpatient Program and inpatient treatment (coming soon)
